Germany's Educational System:

The German educational system has established mechanisms to ensure that all students, regardless of their financial situation, receive a high-quality education up to university level. Public schools, known for their rigorous academic standards and ability to produce high-achieving students, are attended by the majority of German students.

German law mandates compulsory basic and secondary education for all students aged 6 to 15. Students have a range of options for their secondary education, including:

  • Gymnasium - In Germany, high school typically begins at age six and spans nine years. Upon completing final exams, students traditionally receive an Abitur diploma.
  • Private Schools – They levy tuition fees and offer a broad spectrum of courses. Students earn a German Abitur along with additional certifications and accolades upon graduation.
  • Internat - German boarding schools offer Abitur and specialized courses across various study programs. Additionally, there are alternative boarding schools (Internat) catering to sports, music, and other professions.
  • International Schools - Germany hosts a limited number of international schools that follow a globally recognized curriculum and offer the International Baccalaureate, widely accepted by universities worldwide.

Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (HZB) is essentially a qualification that confirms your previous academic credentials meet the standards required for entry into the German higher education system.

Students may be eligible for :
  • Direct General Admission - depending on the recognition of their high school graduation.
  • Subject restricted admission
  • General admission to a Preparatory - course designed for students who do not meet the requirements for direct admission.
  • Classical Universities - Offer a diverse range of subjects for higher education and confer Bachelor's and Master's degrees as well as diplomas.
  • Private universities - offer a range of degree and diploma programs across various fields.
  • Vocational/technical school - Students receive training and specialization for diverse careers.
  • Universities of Applied Sciences - It has been observed that research-based programs and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses at German universities are highly favored by international students.

Germany's educational system continually aims to adopt a comprehensive and well-developed approach towards innovative research and training methods, ensuring students receive education that surpasses global standards.

Languages

The official languages of Canada are English and French. However, the 2016 Census revealed that over 7.3 million Canadians speak a non-official language as their first language. Among these languages are Chinese, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog, and Arabic, spoken by significant communities. Studying in Canada offers a fantastic opportunity to learn multiple languages, enhancing your CV/resume.Most Canadian universities offer courses taught in English, while some institutions in Quebec also provide French-taught courses. If you are studying in a language that is not your native tongue, you may need to demonstrate your language proficiency. If you do not meet the required language standards, many schools offer short language courses to help you improve your skills.
